Enter the Dark of the Night

Calling

T TThe time has come; the early hours,
The dark of the night, all is still
shrouded in blackness, hidden in stillness
In the silence you are alone.
Cast aside fear, dare to step out into the void unclad,
Feel the air, it caresses your soul.
Now out, into the path, pick your way through the shadows
Do not stumble, but softly tread
for the world is alive, even at this hour
hear the creatures scurry away as you pass
Then on, to that special place, the orchard,
the circle in the trees
And enter that special place
blessed by the spirit of the place
But here you are the guest
at the bidding of the other world
so begin;
Stand, arms outstretched, and turn,
South, West, North, Then face the east.
With your will bring a glow to the distant horizon,
lighten the darkness,
and so the birds sing
See the sphere of the Lord of the Day
rise into the sky
As the clouds burn in reds and golds
and a light wind arises
Smell the dew, smell the dawn,
the light is in the east.
Think again, and all is dark once more.
Now face the south.
It is day, the sun burns down,
the poppies sway with the corn in the field,
the gorse pods pop
and the lazy drone of the bees
drifts through the air
laden with scents of summer flowers
the light is in the south.
Think again, and all is dark once more.
Now face the west.
The day is done, now is the golden hour,
The sun hangs low in the sky,
and pulls colours warm as velvet from the trees,
the flowers, the old stone wall
Only to sink into the glow and disappear, but look
A parting farewell - the clouds
Shine out again in orange and red
But in an instant it is gone
Think again, and all is dark once more.
Now face the north.
Think of the light occulted
The sun below, while here is shadow
Think deep, think of the light below, then
Think again, and all is dark once more.
Now stretch to the sky, spin round and round
Then face the west once more
To see the jewel of the sky,
the crescent moon hangs there and holds
All your dreams, all your desires
Are there, in what you see
The silver maiden of the sky
that joins the worlds while your thoughts pause, but
Think again, and all is dark once more.
Now stretch to the sky, spin round and round
Then face the south once more
A silver face shines down on you
casts shadows on the ground
The silver mother of the sky
To fill your soul with love
