Salisbury Cathedral Spire
At the time these photographs were taken (March 1997) the west face of the cathedral was surrounded with scaffolding due to restoration work. This limited the photographic possibilities to the shots featured here. The building of this medieval cathedral started in 1220, and it was completed, apart from the spire, in 1258. The spire, which was added later, is the tallest in England and rises more than 122 metres above the surrounding countryside.
