The Place du Tetre in Montmartre is world famous for the artists who work there, and on a hot day it is a good place to enjoy a bottle of wine at one of the many cafés and watch the world go by. I first photographed this area in 1965, sadly none of the material survives.

The Basilica was designed in the romano-byzantine style by the architect Paul Abadie. The foundation stone was laid in 1875, and the Basilica was consecrated in 1919, delayed from 1914 due to the outbreak of the first world war.

The Basilica is 85 metres wide, 35 metres deep and the dome is 83 metres high. The glorious September sunshine provides an opportunity to sunbathe on the grassy slopes below.

The Statue de la Liberté is located next to the Pont de Grenelle, at the western end of the Île aux Cygnes. The statue, which is 11.5 metres high, was inaugurated on July 4, 1889.

Notre Dame de Paris

Notre Dame de Paris, or Notre Dame Cathedral, resplendent in the evening sunshine. The cathedral, situated on the on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité, was built between 1163 and 1345.
